Bee museum

The Bee Museum was founded by the owners of the Melissokomiki Dodecanisou with the intention to transmit the knowledge as well as the love of the owners for nature and for the natural honey produced in the Dodecanese. Visitors have the chance to observe and familiarize themselves with the wonderful world of the bees. The three dimensional roof of the Museum carries visitors away to a journey inside the interior of a beehive in order to watch the whole procedure of bees producing honey. Then visitors learn the biology of the bee and how the bee prepares honey, as well as the usefulness of its products, like the royal jelly, the pollen, the wax the propolis and the poison. A special interest is focused on the collection of tools, hives, machines, compressors and other equipment as well as a presentation of how the honey is extracted from the hives. Finally, visitors will have the chance to admire the bees while at work and be fascinated watching bees busy in glass hives live, just as they do in nature. There are many products on sale in the Museum like the traditional sweet, melekouni.
