Municipal art gallery

The Museum of Modern Greek Art of Rhodes otherwise known as Municipal Gallery of Rhodes as an extensive collection of art works in painting and in carving, as well as many sculptures representing the Greek art of the 20th century. The gallery officially opened in 1964 with the help of literary writer and collector, Andreas Ioannou and it is accommodated in a historical building at the entrance of the Medieval town (Symi Square).A visit to the Municipal Gallery of Rhodes, is surely the best way to begin or finish your walk in the Medieval Town, since at its entrance is the Archaeological Museum and the Grand Master’s palace. This visit is worth paying as it is short and  quite informational. The collection of the Gallery includes works by K. Maleas, K. Parthenis , F. Kontoglou, Theofilos N. Chatzikyriakos-Gkika, Sp. Valileios, G. Spyropoulos, G.Gaiti, Fassianos, Kessanlis, Chr. Mpotsoglou, Moralis, Tsarouchis and many other Greek artists.  Not to be confused with the Modern Art Museum situated near the casino of Rhodes.
