Acropolis of Rhodes
On the Hill of Monte Smith in the western and highest part of the city is the Acropolis of ancient Rhodes. Lovers of antiquity will surely enjoy a walk on the hill, in a beautiful and lush archaeological park and will have the opportunity to admire the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythius, the Doric temple in honor of Zeus Polieus and Polias Athena. The Stadium is known as the stadium of Diagoras where Athletic games and competitions were organised as well as the Roman Conservatory with a seating capacity for 800 people. Nowadays various cultural events are held with the permission of the Rhodes archaeological Service.For the romantics and for sportsmen the best time to take a walk, jogging or to enjoy the unique sunset and the view of the city and the sea, is in the afternoon.
